#VeganMoFo2014 ✖️ One of my favorite comfort foods in Taiwan is lightly pan-fried scallion pancakes. It is sort of like a flaky, savory tortilla with green scallions inside. They are crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and tear apart with ease. You will see them in every supermarket freezer in Taiwan along with teahouses and night markets. The #vegan version I’ve tried in Taiwan used Chinese toon leaves instead of scallions, which is reminiscent of garlic and chives. Toon is a great alternative for those who prefer not to eat garlic and onions. 🌱

Warning: Not all of them are #vegan due to fermentation process that often includes animal-based brine. I was fortunate to try a #vegetarian stinky tofu stall in T’aichung and boy, it was pretty tasty once you take a bite off of it. #VeganMoFo #VeganMoFoTAIWAN #veganfoodshare

#VeganMoFo2014 ✖️ Round in shape with a chewy, starchy texture (sweet potato flour + rice flour) and stuffed with #vegan savory filling: shiitake mushrooms, fried shallots, bamboo shoots, white pepper, and some spices, this is the quintessential #Taiwanese ‘meatball’ dumpling (Ba-Wan), one of the most popular snack and street foods in Taiwan. This delicious steamed dumpling is served with sweet red chili sauce and usually garnished with coriander. These Taiwanese-style cucumber salad and fried tofu are pretty tasty!! Miam! 😍
